Going Green

At Dewachen Inn we are are constantly looking for ways to "Go Green"!

This years project was Rain Collection and it has been a huge success. We set up two separate collecting systems. The first is a gutter system on our Barn that's downspout brings water directly into the Cow's large drinking tub.

The second is a much larger gutter system that we put up on the front side of the Main House. The downspout from this system leads to two 300 gallon storage tanks that we use by gravity or pump to fill the pigs drinking tub and to water our gardens, lawn, green house and all the beautiful flower baskets Susan puts along both the Main House and the Inn porches.

Two years ago we purchased a Skystream 3.7 Wind Turbine from Susitna Energy and erected it on our property with no outside assistance other than Kirk the owner of Susitna Energy and his unbelievable staff. Kirk isnt a sit in the office and direct things kind of owner, in fact thats him in the Red Shirt and muddy rain gear.

The Turbine has been up and running for over two years now with not one problem, zero, zilch! It purrs like a kitten and produces clean green electricity when ever the wind blows! These are just our first steps to make sure that Dewachen Inn not only brings people in to see the wonderfull Matanuska Valley and Alaska but we do everything in our power to help maintain its Beauty and Majesty!
